Saudi Arabia has removed the phrase “the Muslims will never give up Jerusalem” from its school textbooks as part of wider revisions to its national curriculum, according to a report by the Israel-based research group IMPACT-se as covered by Middle East Eye.
“The Muslims will never give up Jerusalem,” a statement previously included in educational materials, was omitted alongside several revisions to maps and terminology regarding Israel and Palestine.
The curriculum updates also modified references to Israel, changing terms previously describing the country as the “Zionist Enemy” to “the Israeli Occupation.” IMPACT-se welcomed the removal of content it categorized as antisemitic, while criticizing the textbook revisions for continuing to describe Israel as an occupying power and portraying Zionism in a negative light.
